What in the Hell is a Wonkette?

Wonkette, if you have the good fortune of not knowing, is a left-liberal site that manages to consider itself cheeky and iconoclastic while endorsing only the most exquisitely conventional, establishment-approved opinions.  If you’re not located somewhere along that fantastic spectrum of genius that ranges from Chuck Schumer to Arlen Specter, Wonkette will expose you to the world as the misanthropic imbecile you obviously are.

That’s Tom Woods in his latest article for Taki’s Magazine. Wonkettes are “establishment hangers-on.” People of the left who used to oppose conformity and question authority. No longer. The Wonkette website recently attacked Michele Bachmann for daring to question Timothy Geithner about the Treasury Department’s usurpation of authority. The Wonkette author referred to Tom and others as being “Ron Paul circle jerks” because they have spoken at Ron Paul lunches where congressional members attend and learn Austrian Economics. Now a final point about Wonkettes, or pro-establishment, lackey leftists.

The Wonkette kids are like the popular group in high school that wanted to belong to the fashionable causes, since that’s what the other popular kids did, but made sure they weren’t too ostentatious in their devotion to those causes.  We can’t be too different, you understand. Just cool. Just different enough to be able to sneer at the rest of mankind and its stupid, unenlightened opinions, but not so different that we won’t get invited to cocktail parties at the homes of people who matter.

Now imagine those people running a website, and you’ve got Wonkette.

See my articles/blogs on Michele Bachmann here, here, and here.

Wonkette outdoes herself on this one:

    AMERICA’S BIGGEST A**HOLE

Ron Paul Hates Freedom & Democracy (In Iran)”

Once again shooting off yer mouth without any research … Wonkette, if you would take a minute to peruse the site, is an equal opportunity insulter, dedicated to making fun of political fools on both (all) sides of the aisle. God forbid anyone have a sense of humor.

“Andrew,” the point is that their supposedly equal opportunity insults are all generated from a 100% establishment point of view. I don’t care that they also say a nasty thing about Chris Dodd sometimes. That is not even close to the point.

Andrew — I’ve done my research on Wonkette. Considering that reading and commentary is my gig, ya think maybe I’ve paid some attention to the site over time? Nah, never heard of Wonkette until this morning! And Andrew, get a brain (or two) and make the distinction between “sense of humor” commentary and pro-establishment political hack commentary.

The Wonkette kids description is so very perfect. I’ve known so many and tried to get them to see things from a different perspective and failed. Can they ever learn/change, even after the roof over their heads collapses? Certainly not until. I do so dislike labels, but this one seems useful. “Oh, so you’re a wonkette, I see, never mind then, you’ll never get it.” Preprogrammed one track minded robots. Just like telling a homeower in 2003 that the housing bubble is going to collapse and housing values will plummet 60%. Their, “deer caught in the head-lights look” response morphs into an attack Wonkette kid, “That will Never happen!” What’s the pre-The Wall equivalent in East Germany? A good Party member? Did they ever learn or are they like the current Russians who, today, long for the old Soviet Union? Oh, I forgot, all history stops at 2001, the rest never happened and is irrelevant.

This seemed so familiar somehow, then I remembered…
