Travel Icon Frommer is a Militant Anti-Self-Defense Loon

Arthur Frommer is boycotting Arizona. Who cares, right? But the interesting aspect of this issue is why he is boycotting Arizona. From his blog:

But I am shocked beyond measure by reports that earlier this week, nearly a dozen persons, including one with an assault rifle strapped about his shoulders and others with pistols in their hands or holsters, were openly congregating outside a hall at which President Obama was speaking to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

…I will not personally travel in a state where civilians carry loaded weapons onto the sidewalks and as a means of political protest. I not only believe such practices are a threat to the future of our democracy, but I am firmly convinced that they would also endanger my own personal safety there. And therefore I will cancel any plans to vacation or otherwise visit in Arizona until I learn more. And I will begin thinking about whether tourists should safeguard themselves by avoiding stays in Arizona.

He referred to people who exercised their right to open carry as “extremists” and “thugs.”

I would feel as I do regardless of the political identity of the speaker whom these thugs attempted to intimidate. The continued tolerance of extremists carrying guns is a frightening development which strikes at the heart of the political process and endangers the ability to carry out a reasoned debate.

I buy some Frommer’s guides and a lot of Moon Handbooks guides. Now I am not a boycotting type of person, for every alternative to the one you boycott will surely have committed a more egregious act that goes against your freedom philosophy. However, considering the obnoxious nature of this man’s comments, and his absolute show of uneducated, sissified ignorance, I will never purchase this man’s product again.

After I commented I read some of the other comments. Usually I feel pretty stupid when my comments are exactly like everyone else’s on a thread, this time however; I felt reassured. I wonder why the comments come up blank going back #136 to #126? I stopped looking/trying at #126. Maybe it’s my PC, but I doubt it. 1113 comments – wow did he ever push peoples buttons.

Go ahead, Artie, urge your readers to boycott the Grand Canyon State. Personally and quite frankly, the sort of people who read and plan their travel around Frommer’s books are the sort of people I don’t want visiting this state anyway. I’m talking about the sanctimonious, moneyed, nanny liberals from places like New York and California, people who have been flooding us in great numbers for the last several years, especially refugees from the Fruit and Nut State to our immediate West. These despicable creatures, after making their own states uninhabitable, now want to spread the plague and visit upon those of us in other states who still live with some remnants of relative freedom the same disasters they’ve created back home. So to any of Frommer’s devotees who would follow his advice I say: STAY HOME, AND GOOD RIDDANCE! We’re not THAT desperate for tourist revenue!

I suppose Frommer is ok with hundreds of police, SWAT teams, snipers lining the rooftops, etc. People like Frommer are just fine with totalitarian police states as long as he gets to go see what he wants to see.

Hey Art – you have a problem. Imagine if someone showed up somewhere – anywhere – and exercised their rights under Article II of the Bill of Rights. And NOTHING happened. That’s what happened here.

But in typical hoplophobic reaction, you wet your panties and swear you will avid our state.

I’m quite sure that the folks running hotels, motels and B&B’s around here don’t really want to have to clean the sheets after you we-weed up the bed after seeing a local with his Roscoe strapped on his hip, or with his rifle or shotgun in the rack.

I heartily suggest you go someplace safe, where you won’t see a law-abiding citizen carrying a gun – you know – some safe haven like Chicago or Washington, DC.

You will only see statist guns or guns in the hands of criminals there.

And even though there is no compelled legal duty for the police to protect any individual citizen, you will be safe knowing you wont have to actually see a citizen who is willing an able to protect him or herself.

You may also want to review just how many other states allow open carry. You may decide to limit your travel choices to more states than just Arizona.

BTW – please do gun owners a favor and post your house and automobile as a “gun free zone.” I’d hate to see an armed citizen intercede on your behalf in the event that you are being accosted or mugged by an armed cretin. You will do everyone a favor if they know in advance to leave you to protect yourself.

As to the issue of carrying a gun at a political rally, did you get the memo that NOTHING HAPPENED, besides others of your hoplophobic bent soiling their britches?

Oh, and do you intend to limit your travels to places where obscene or gross displays of human deviant sexual conduct are displayed in public – like at “Gay Pride” rallies? I typically avoid those venues, but I don’t make a big deal about it. If something offends you, you certainly have the right to stay away from what you find offensive. In this case, you have done Arizonans a favor. I suspect that a lot of folks will be happy to travel here, now that they know that they can openly carry a gun for their own protection.

I also encourage you to Google “the only ones” to discover just how safe you really are in a venue where only statists can carry guns.

Good news. I hear carrying weapons is not permitted for civilians on the south side of Chicago. Perhaps the good Mr. Frommer will feel more comfortable vacationing there. The only worry he will have is if a criminal illegally uses a weapon. He will not have to worry about a criminal legally using a weapon against him. What a relief.
