After reading this blog and the comments, I just had to play a song I originally saw on "The Lloyd Thaxton Show" in about 1964 called "Bread and Butter" by the Newbeats.

Hi, it looks from your comment that you are one of the minority of folk with the hereditary condition called familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH). As such, you might be interested in a book called "Cholesterol and the French Paradox" by an American-Australian naturopath called Frank Cooper, who also has this condition. It's available at Amazon in paperback and is also downloadable as a pdf file from Cooper's website ( http://frankcooper.com.au/eBook-Ordering.php ). In it he talks about his own experiences, as well as those of his daughter (also with the condition) who at age 23 was told she would have to take statin drugs for life: Cooper reminded her that her grandmother (also with FH) had lived "an active healthy life until she was 85 years old".

Besides Dr Uffe Ravnskov's "The Cholesterol Myths", two other excellent books to investigate share the same name: "The Great Choloesterol Con". One is by Australian Anthony Colpo, with a preface by Dr Ravnskov and nearly 1500 medical references; the other is by Scottish doctor Malcolm Kendrick and is written is a direct style like Karen's, here.

Hi Karen,

Let's work together to get rid of those shameful discounts offered to tax-feeders of all stripes. We noticed Sheryl offers such a discount. We, as both individuals and Siblings in Liberty, need to REDUCE the incentives for others to become and continue to be tax-feeders.

Who will the looters loot when looters are all that are left to loot?

As one afflicted with a congenital blood cholesterol problem (thanks, Mom!), I've tried just about every one of the statins over the course of the last 12-15 years that they've been around and NOT ONE has been without unpleasant side effects. Bloating, sleeplessness, excessive sweating, nausea, persistent headaches, and (ahem) suboptimal libido have all attended one or the other. While the statins did succeed in keeping my HDL levels below the 140 range (without them I was hovering in the 300-plus range, regardless of dietary habits), I ultimately decided that not only was it not worth suffering the immediate side effects, but God only knows what the long-term effects are of these slow-acting poisons. Having read and heard a great many positive reviews of Red Yeast Rice, I've decided to give that a try. My last blood check had my HDL at 210 after a four-month hiatus from Zocor (run Forrest, run!), so I'll give the RYR a couple of months before the next test. The primal diet sounds interesting. I might try it, if only to see whether or not there is any validity to the advice I've gotten from every GP I've seen over the past fifteen years to avoid red meat due to my blood cholestorol problem.

Stand by for photos of my LSD Chicken (reference there... think Grateful Dead and their longtime soundman...). Anyway, more butter than you can believe.

Gotta get to 134.

I find those, "I trust my heart to Lipitor" commercials almost as revolting as the high-fructose-corn-syrup ads. Dennis Mangan once made a great post about statin drugs, and his conclusion (he's a research scientist by trade) was that you shouldn't use them if you want a functioning brain.

(I am joking people.) Actually ...... I was THINKING of Nikoley, here, when I posted my 115 HDL, because we had discussed his 133 number. It must be the testosterone! But, who cares - I STILL have better legs .........
