The Government’s Latest “Stimulus” Plan

Hiring part-time “clipboard-toting workers going door-to-door to verify the government population” – in other words, the 2010 census. From Bloomberg:

The 2010 census couldn’t have come at a better time for the U.S. economy.

The government will hire about 1.2 million temporary workers in the first half of the year to administer the decennial population count, possibly providing a bridge to gains in private employment later in the year.

The surge will probably dwarf any hiring by private employers early in 2010 as companies delay adding staff until they are convinced the economic recovery will be sustained. Money earned by the clipboard-toting workers going door-to-door to verify the government population survey is likely to be spent, giving the economy an extra lift.

One person interviewed – an economist from Barclays Capital  - refers to the census as a “short-term stimulus program.” Perhaps Americans should be concerned about why the government has hired three times more workers to carry out the 2010 census than were hired for the 2000 census. I expect the effort to perpetuate this invasive scheme in 2010 to be wholly aggressive. Read Gary Barnett on this issue.

I think that once in my 65 years of life I filled out and mailed in a census question survey; otherwise the census has been invisible to me. This is yet another useless government agency!! You Betcha!!!

Saw these comments posted on a site regarding the census. ‘I received a post card informing me that I would be receiving the census about one month ago. A few days later I received it, looked it over and thought “this is a scam!”. A section for each person that lives in my household wanting name, age, dob, where we work, what time we leave,,number of toilets in home, how long it takes to get to work, exact amount of income.
REALLY!!! I thought these jokers want to know when my home is unoccupied so they can rob us! I ignored it, then got a postcard wanting to know if I received it. I did some research an sure enough it was legit! Last week I received another one and today (Saturday) I received a phone call from them. OOPs somehow got disconnected as soon as I heard the words census bureau.” This guy has a good thought…WTH would they need to know what time you leave for work, or how many toilets you have? And another commented–”Come knocking on my door and hopefully my dog will take a piece out of their ass, I certainly will have a firearm at the ready, because it looks like that is the direction this country is heading and fast.” So it will be interesting to see how this census takes off, actually it started on January 4th. Heard on WGBH that it will be difficult to track young black men for they may spend a night or two at home with mother, another 2 to 3 with the girlfriend and the rest with other friends. And the immigrants are afraid to answer questions for fear of deportation…oh how lucky we are to pay for this monstrosity that will accomplish what?.
