The Coffee Calling the Pot Black

I love hate mail. The one I got today was a hoot-and-a-half. A Jennifer Barrymore writes me on my column on the movie 8 Mile, and it was a nice little, racist job:

I just came across your article regarding 8 Mile and I said, she must be white. [ooohhhh, so un-PC] Then I see your email address it is so confirmed. [Umm, how much do you want to bet that she doesn't have a clue as to what the "Old Right" cause is? Jennifer, do write me back when you know what "Old Right-Wing" really means....hint, hint: start with WWII and the antiwar movement!] I feel sorry for whites such as yourself who don’t have a clue.

Then I slap her back, and she says [and this is the fun part]: I just find it vey upsetting that we live in a society where there is prejudgement based purely on race.

Let’s see; my column on 8 Mile did no prejudging; it merely stated the facts of the Coleman Young regime and its role in white-black relations. But since Young was black, we must assume that one cannot criticize him….as per Miss Barrymore. And then Barrymore tells me how she hates pre-judgment after she pre-judges me. Gotta love it.
