Summertime is Margaritatime

Drink Boy says “a properly made margarita never sees the inside of a blender.” Such is the law of respect for a good margarita.

Applebee’s is famous for its Perfect Margarita. I have finally mimicked that recipe. Recipe Boy says this is the Perfect Margarita:

2 ounces tequila
1 1/3 ounce Cointreau
2/3 ounce lime juice margarita.bmp

That doesn’t quite cut it. That is way too much Cointreau. Not only is it wickedly expensive, but it is wickedly strong, as well. I love strong drinks, however, this recipe had me feeling a hangover before I was done. This recipe is close, too. But I found that the Perfect One was a cross between the two.

Here it is: Use 2 oz. of 1800 tequila. Use 1 1/3 oz. of Triple Sec, with the best combination being 1/3 oz. of Cointreau, and one ounce of a cheaper (and weaker) Triple Sec. I prefer Mohawk ($7 per bottle), though there are others that are cheaper, but often too sweet. Squeeze juice from one lime (about 3/4 oz). When done, use the lime to wipe around the edge of a cocktail glass. Dip the glass in a coarse salt. Shake your cocktail with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Don’t ever use a bottled lime juice like Rose’s – too sweet, too sticky. For a taste exactly like Applebee’s, use a little less tequila, and a little more Triple Sec. You can even tweak it with a splash of Grand Marnier. Mine comes in at slightly stronger than an Applebee’s margarita.
