Wow you guys are certainly harsh.
I’m Australian, a blogger and I think you guys have a really misunderstood view of gun owners in Australia. Though I won’t defend Steve I do get why he took a moderate approach on national TV.
To go out there guns blazing and saying the things you guys would have said would have been bad for shooters in the country. Do I think he took too much of a moderate view in the interview?
Yes.
Would I have answered those questions differently?
Certainly.
My point is that I did think he went too far on the side of gun control He should have said it didn’t work and there is evidence to prove it but he didn’t. Perhaps it was nerves, perhaps he was trying to not be the stereotypical redneck that the media portrays us shooters to be. I don’t know but you guys have to understand in Australia our constitution does not say we have a right to bare arms. We are in a different country from a different culture and we most certainly don’t have the numbers of shooters or the political power as you guys do in the US.

Our laws suck BIGTIME there is not a doubt about that. They were a knee-jerk reaction and one that we will never recover from.
Many of us shooters would do anything to get semi-auto’s back and be able to use hand-guns.
AT this point our guns have to be locked up.
They can’t be used for self defense and that is not even a legitimate reason to own one.
Plus a whole myriad of other stupid laws.

What are we supposed to do? Our constitution didn’t protect us like yours did and I don’t see anyone in the US giving a shit about us and even in the OP and the comments none of it was in concern of Australia but how weak we are or some other insult towards our country or its firearm owners.

How about you guys give us a hand to help repeal the gun laws we have over here? I don’t see politicians being critical of our Govt nor do I see any form of donations toward our cause (nor do we expect them) But if you are all going to be so critical of my country’s firearm owners rather than our Govt put your money where your mouth is.

If you want Aussie perspective in this feel free to interview me. I am not as moderate on gun laws as Steve and feel I can give Australian Shooters a better representation on the subject of gun laws here.
Gun Control in Australia DOES NOT WORK. Though I am certainly not as hardcore as you guys and believe that background checks and what not aren’t a bad thing. Our biggest problem is getting guns off of the street and into the hands of Law Abiding Citizens.

The way I see it is Steve Lee didn’t like being flamed for others quoting his own words – and explaining the real meaning.

Steve Lee had a chance to state that guns are inanimate objects which can’t perform any act absent the user. Instead, he said that gun control laws in Australia are a good thing. His position is the government can prohibit certain users and that’s a good thing.

He could have pointed out murder is illegal -no matter which tool is used – and that an armed citizen could have changed the outcome.

Your illustration of what’s happening down there demonstrates a mindset that the government will take care of any and all problems – just give them the chance.

Perhaps the fact that the Brits used the place as as a penal colony is the reason that so many of them have the mentality that they should have to ask permission for a natural right – such as the right of self defense.

Steve Lee tried to leverage his video into an international sensation – then he opened his mouth in something other than a song. Then he and friends flamed Karen for calling bullshit bullshit. He’s a slave, praying for permission to practice his hobby and doesn’t even know it.

The links you forwarded illustrates that there’s a lot of them there that don’t know they’re slaves. And Steve Lee hasn’t helped the ones who understand their predicament. Some people should stick to singing songs and blowing up cars, and shut up about freedom.

I take it this Steve Lee fellow doesn’t have a 2nd amendment in Kangaroo country. We in America know that George Washington didn’t use his Right to Free Speech to defeat the British…he simply shot them! I recently saw a tee shirt with this message…..”GUN CONTROL: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow more morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.” Seeing that Australia has both an immigration problem as well as a growing Muslim population, one has to wonder why the police would disallow guns for personal protection. With a Socialist Alliance fully entrenched in Wallabee country, Aussies have the “privilege” of giving free housing to the masses of Sri Lankens and Tamils arriving on their shores with no end in sight, but with feelings of entitlement. The cost right before 9/11 was around $7,500 per immigrant…and all on the backs of the Aussies. This video might make you feel a tad better about our growing illegal problem here in the US.

So – first Steve Lee (and friends) whine and cry about his “treatment” by American bloggers, like Karen and David Codrea. Then he agrees to a platform from which to clarify his position.

After agreeing to the interview, Karen (who undoubtedly put a lot of thought, and spent a bunch of time constructing the questions for the interview) is then told by Ms. Lee, NOT to post the interview.

So – what he previously said in his televised interview stands as his position. OK, Steve Lee and supporters, time to STFU.

You caught him limp, like he was a rag doll, and didn’t let him go. Very good. Steve Lee is clearly a statist, through and through. The statist mind set is, “I’M okay, but all those other people are not, THEY need to be controlled by and for people like me.” He seems to fail to understand the statist method, that it starts wherever it can and never wants to stop. It’s the thing that Pastor Neimoller said, which is such a classic, but it bears remembering and contemplating even if a person has heard it a thousand times:

“First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out–because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out–because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out–because I was not a Jew.

And, finally, I could hear you, speaking as “Yoda”, but instead of saying “No. Try not. Do…or do not. There is no try”, you are saying, “Moderation, no. Freedom, or no freedom. There is no moderation.”
