Saluting Government: New Detroit mayorSaturday, September 7, 2002
Saluting Government: New Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who already gets 24/7 security protection at his home, is apparently worthy of salutes from Detroit police officers: “Effective immediately,” a police department directive reads, “all members assigned to the security detail at the mayor’s residence, upon seeing Mayor Kilpatrick exit his home or vehicle, shall get out of their patrol vehicle with your hat on and render a hand salute.” The officers who don’t do so will be “disciplined”. This nonsense is for the purpose of continually justifying the validity of government and its leaders. Saluting confirms that the mere peasant in the street shall worship his great leaders to the point of exhaustion. Oh bow down to thee and revel in the glory of greatness!
