Return to the Planet of “No Judgment”

Earlier this year I wrote an article about the inane Planet Fitness chain and its commitment to making sure you don’t judge anyone within its walls. Planet Fitness advertises its “Judgment Free Zone” – a registered trademark, and don’t make me laugh – as a place where “members can relax, get in shape, and have fun without being subjected to the hard-core, look-at-me attitude that exists in too many gyms.” It seems that even Jon Stewart has caught on – see his great sendup of Planet Fitness as Jason Jones talks to a guy in Pennsylvania who got kicked out of Planet Fitness for being too hardcore. Joe Pulcinella of Iron Sport Gym confirmed this with me; the guy joined Iron Sport after he really did get booted from Planet Fitness.

Also see Iron Sport Gym’s terrific mockery of the Planet Fitness model.

The owners of Planet Fitness appear to have learned doublespeak from their government masters.

If it truly was a “no judgement” zone, then everyone of all shapes and sizes would be welcome including bodybuilders!  I cannot believe such nonsense and then it has a “dress code.”  It seems more like an elementary gym class than a fitness center.
