Obama’s Libertarian Moment
Wednesday, April 7, 2010Posted in category Totalitarian Government
At 1:50 of this video, Obama notes that the use of private military contractors privatizes “what essentially sets a nation-state apart, which is the monopoly on violence.” Thanks to Kalim (of Western Standard) for the heads-up and link.

Well, you gotta give him credit for admitting that he wants the monopoly on violence for said nation-state…is this a Freudian slip or is he just telling it like it is….in HIS mind! It surely looks like they are off and running on our soil with contracting the military, with this latest
tidbit right out of the healthcare bill regarding a domestic army! Judge Napolitano reveals in this video the wierd plans underway. You have to ask yourself after viewing this, just why in the hell we need a military within the healthcare system. Perhaps to hold you down for vaccines?

After viewing that one, check out this next one which guarantees to raise the hairs on your arms..the music accompanying the video has that ominous quality that portends a scary, creepy scenario.

I’d say it’s more “Obama’s Objectivist moment”…

Another thing that distinguishes private contractors from the military is that the military is not for profit, and I for one thing it is a disastrous idea to take taxpayer money, which is taken by force, and hand it over to for-profit contractors. Given the power of lobbying and the connections of these contractors to government officials, this is just an efficient way of looting the population. So, I have to agree with Obama in some respect, although I don’t even want to see private contractors in the kitchen.

Shayne, Although I’d agree with you about the taxpayer footing the bill for private contractors, (it being wrong to do so), methinks you missed the main point of this video which was more about Obama saying a nation-state has a ‘monopoly on violence’…meaning that it really doesn’t matter if we hire contractors or have regular military, in the end if one believes that a NATION STATE HAS THE MONOPLY ON VIOLENCE, implicit in this notion is the germ of evil, that of the state having the right to take one’s life. Do you honestly go along with that idea? This video made it very clear by having Obama repeat FIVE TIMES regarding ‘the monoply of violence”. Note he did NOT say a nation has the monopoly on ‘protecting it’s citizens’, rather, it has the utmost authority to wield violence. We already see this violence in its financial/economic forms now.

Jeannie,
My only (intended) point was that so long as there is a tyrannical state usurping the monopoly on force and stealing money from its citizens in order to do so, then I do not want private citizens profiting from it. Indeed, such a setup is gutter fascism. We’re far better off with outright socialism than the setup we seem to be evolving toward, where “private” companies get a monopoly on taxpayer funds.

Shayne,
Your point is well taken, and your terminology of ‘gutter fascism’ is descriptive of such corruption. With the melding of government and corporate america along with Wall St, big pharma, and big agriculture, I do think that we have reached the point where ‘private’ companies are already getting their fair share of taxpayer funds. Corporate america gets their welfare handouts. Big ag now controls the food supply to make us sick, and big pharma steps in to supposedly make us well…all of which makes big govt with its kickbacks from big pharma and big ag both a public/private entity benefitting from our wallets. In a very real way, they do have a monopoly on taxpayer funds….which means that WE are the biggest welfare dept on the block, for without US supplying them, they would all dry up in no time at all. When you have a suck-ee, there will always be a suck-er..and John Q Public is the latter!

Obama’s libertarian moments are about as frequent as Halley’s Comet.

Amen to that one Steve. Yes, indeed it is a rarity as we will view this coming Tuesday night on FRONTLINE at 9:00 EST. It seems that whatever this guy says he will do ends up totally different than what he planned to do. This feature, Obama’s Deal, claims, “Through interviews with administration officials, senators and Washington lobbyists, Obama’s Deal reveals the dramatic details of how an idealistic president pursued the health care fight—despite the warnings of many of his closest advisers—and how he ended up making deals with many of the powerful special interests he had campaigned against.” Can we say that he is easily bought? Oh yeh, as this show will reveal just how slimy this sausage making really is.
Surely can’t claim a Libertarian moment here—www.pbs.org/frontline/obamasdeal
