New Post of My Old Post

I know this post seems like a repeat, but it isn’t. It is based on this post from 2 weeks ago, but I have added a ton, including many resources at the bottom of the piece. Lew Rockwell had read the post on my blog and he told me he wanted to link to it on his daily page. I said, wait! It was pretty raw – as I intend many blog posts to be – and so I wanted a longer, better version to appear on his page.

Lots of folks complain to me that Lew keeps putting all of this “vegetarian stuff” on his page lately. True, but he also links the opposing views when he comes across them, like my piece. He is interested in heretical and non-conforming ideas that urge critical thinking, and so he’s open to running a piece like mine.

Karen, I really enjoyed reading the longer version. It’s great to find additional resources that add depth to topics of interest. Three years have passed since I ditched my low-fat mostly vegetarian ways and I have never felt better or appreciated food more. Finally, I love to shop and cook because it makes sense. Sometimes, I get so mad at myself because my discipline really worked against me. I think the only mistake that I didn’t make is that processed junk food never appealed to me. Ah, but then I just shrug it off, whip something up (these days from Mastering the Art of French Cooking), pour a glass of wine and delight in having my family love what I put on the table.

Lauren, I too never got caught up in processed foods – not buying prepared, processed “meals” anyway. (Except I did those Healthy Choice meals back in the 80s or 90s.) I was also never big on fast food. McDonald’s? Hardly ever been there. But when you realize how much of the extra “stuff” in your cupboard is “processed,” it makes for a good day filling the trash. (Fake mashed potatoes, rice-a-roni, stuff like that.)

Never apologize for “repeats,” as true education involves repetition. I’ve been on the Paleo kick since your “fried ass on a stick” post, and the weight has really dropped (any man can verify his efforts at weight management by the *unsolicited* comments of women in his life – lol !).
