Good article, and indeed it sounds like Bachmann is worth watching. I have to ask however: Why the negative reaction to her fundamentalist Christian background? It almost sounded like she was a leper or a pedophile.

In your Taki article you used the term fundamentalist. My understanding of the word is that a fundamentalist is a person who has a set of fundamental beliefs. Anyone could fit in that category. Why is it used to imply that a person who holds fundamental beliefs is, in the pejorative sense, someone who needs to be “watched”. While I would agree with you concerning the war in Iraq (unnecessary), I don’t see how Mrs. Bachman’s views on Iraq equate with fundamentalism. Unless you are using it as a pejorative.

Both of you above: not a pejorative, but rather, as I mentioned, the the majority of the modern fundamentalist movement promotes policies inconsistent with libertarianism. Bachmann has supported some heinous foreign policy positions, as well as big government statism domestically. See Laurence Vance on the topic of Christianity and war.

Good post. Thanks for pointing out she voted against the financial industry bailout and the auto industry one. I support any politician who didn’t see fit to loot the taxpayers (and their grandkids).

I agree with your assertion, that quite a few “fundamentalist/evangelicals” supported the war in Iraq and other wars that were fought to promote “democracy”. I view that as more ignorance of the political process, than an inherent flaw in a fundamental belief system. It is time for those of us who hold profound beliefs in the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, to stand up and say “no more” to nation building, empire building or getting rid of tyrants that we put into power in previous misadventures. I thoroughly enjoy your thoughts and articles.
