Most Irritating Food Trends of 2011

This is a delightful and hilarious rundown of some irritating food trends from Chris Schott. Number 2 gets a huge nod from me.

2. Cupcakes

Need I even explain this one? Dainty shops specializing in the miniature frosted desserts now seem more common than the corner Chinese-chicken-pizza-subs carry-outs that have dominated D.C. for decades. In one notable case, a cupcakery has even adopted the traditional carry-out’s signature design feature: bulletproof glass protecting the register. Who are we fooling? The cupcake will never die. It’s the cockroach of the culinary scene. Still, SprinklesCrumbsRed Velvet, and your ilk, it would be nice to find an actual full-size slice of cake every once in a while.

My Cupcake Correspondent, Skip Oliva, sent me the tip.

A hearty second to Mr. Schott’s number 10 on the list, especially his comparison of this irritating trend to “shit stains on Hanes.” ROTFLMFAO!

True, Mr. Schott is specifically describing D.C.-area food trends (and, having lived in the D.C. area for nearly two decades, I can personally attest to the fact that most of the eateries in that tri-state area cater to the arrogant-pretentious-culinarily-ignorant-fucktard crowd). However, enough of the worst of those trends have spread nation-wide that this list is relevant everywhere. I only wish I could be optimistic that the worst of these trends will actually go away by the end of 2012.
