Oh no, say it isn’t so! The Department of Homeland Insecurity’s color-coded terrorism alert system might be scrapped because our Terror Alert Czars fear that it has become meaningless to the public. That can’t be! Before you think that this is a move toward less propaganda and more government proficiency, read how this might happen, and try not to roll your eyes until they disappear into the back of your brain:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will appoint a “task force” made up of national, state, and local government experts, possibly including governors and mayors, to examine whether the color-coded system has outlived its usefulness. Bush administration officials who developed and oversaw the system may also play a role. The committee is likely to solicit comments about the alert system from industries affected by it, including airlines and companies that make or ship hazardous materials. The committee will have 60 days to examine the system and draw up recommendations on its future.

    “The committee will have 60 days to examine the system and draw up recommendations on its future.” I know you’re talking about government here, but I think this is the sort of thing that took American business way off course. Decisions that used to be made by one person in one day are now done by committes and take months to execute — if they get done at all. I saw American business gradually get paralyzed by this starting in the 1980s. No one, it seems, can be counted on to act decisively anymore. In the case of this story, what is the point of having all these “czars,” if they farm out the work they’re paid to do?!

    This is a pretty good link to some of the SWAT abuse that has occurred in Maryland:

    I expect we’ll soon see the headline:

    “The Obama Administration presents New Improved Alert Colors of Fearmongering for the post-9/11 Metrosexual, Welfare State Era: Teal, Mauve, Chartreuse, and Phthalocyanine Green!”

    Maybe they are thinking up new words for peace officer too?
    How many different official words are there for one?
    What’s a public safety officer and when did people start using this word?
    There’s planned effect in the use and placements of the words too.
    In this one story cops were described with ten different words:

    public safety officials
    public safety officers
    police
    law enforcement
    officer
    police Commissioner
    department
    law enforcement officers
    police department
    Fraternal Order of Police

    They forgot Trooper, peace officer and cops, did I leave any civil ones out?
