Gephardt and Central Planning: Gephardt

Gephardt and Central Planning: Gephardt was on Meet the Depressed today, and two of his statements are worth mentioning:

* Gephardt the central planner/economist: “We have a whole world where we’ve figured out supply, so all we have to do is figure out demand.” Dick and his fellow political plunderers must be brilliant, because guys like Mises, Rothbard, and Reisman thought they needed to write a whole treatise in order to ‘splain economics.

* Gephardt the central planner/general plunderer: “My mother gets $42 a month in pensions, after having worked for five employers, and it shouldn’t have to be that way.” You’re right; it shouldn’t be. I should have to work more, and I should have to work harder to support the non-working pensioners who passed on saving their money, even knowing that they would eschew work in order to play golf full-time at some time in their lives.
