Federal Dietary Guidelines, RIP

Well, not quite. But George McGovern has passed away at the age of 90. All the media mentions of his accomplishments never seem to include McGovern’s United States Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs that concluded with the politicized and destructive federal dietary guidelines.

McGovernism set the stage for the Industrial Food Machine corporatocracy and 3+ decades of the government Conventional Wisdomists and their Big Food allies making Americans fat and sick, while also sending our calamitous food “culture” overseas to make everyone else fat and sick, too.

And thirty years after McGovern put the wheels in motion by politicizing personal eating habits and empowering the Political Food Machine, he received the World Food Prize in 2008 for “increasing the quality, quantity, or availability of food in the world.” So here, quantity refers to the subsidized, mega-grain industry, harmful GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), and decrepit CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Organizations). Quality refers to industrial, processed, ready-made shit-in-a-box-or-bag fortified with “healthy vitamins” and marketed as nutritious because the plasticized foods conform to the government’s low-fat, high-carb dietary guidelines and fraudulent food pyramid. And availability means all forms of food welfare, foreign subsidies, and the use of political force to sell subsidized agricultural products overseas.

Yep, another great man who did so much good for the world shall be eulogized by the unconscious media.

(Just praying that no dimwits reply sarcastically with, “Yeah, living to 90 years old: that guy must have had really bad health, sure!” not knowing that government workers have access to the greatest health plans in the country.)

McGovern was a whipping boy in ‘Fat Head’, and I agree that, with his name on the commission for the Lipid Hypothesis, he deserves some criticism.

However, any knowledgeable person who claims that these Congressman actually initiate their own bills and write their own legislation is a liar. Straight up. All of this legislation is planned, written, and encouraged via the lobbyists and other behind-the-scenes parties. There are countless viral videos of congressman admitting that they have no idea what’s in the bills they vote for. On camera.

Whether it’s the PATRIOT act, McCain-Feingold, or the various legislative follow-ups to the McGovern Commission, the politicians themselves are most always just the tools for the real perpetrators.

And so Tom Naughton’s claim like, “It’s all McGovern’s fault!” is so disingenuous that it’s just a lie. McGovern was not Darth Vader (he was a well-meaning doofus) and this health epidemic is not merely the byproduct of some bumbling politicians. So people need to grow the f— up about what has happened and who is doing it.

David – we all know that, of course! Still, these guys carry the lead torch of fascism and totalitarianism and unfreedom, and they deserve to burn at the stake. When you know how Washington works (read the book by Hedrick Smith), then you’ll know why McGovern is to blame for everything done under his direction, and for everything he agreed to that would be carried out under his name.
