I used to read about such things happening in the U.S.S.R. and I used to pity the people that had to endure an oppressive government like that!! Our country is headed down that very same path at ever increasing speed!

My only salvation is my age of 65!! I will not have to be a witness to the destruction of this country for very much longer!

Karen, I admire Heinlein’s writings, but in his book For Us, The Living, he utilized phonetic spelling in his society of the future. If Mathis is a representation of this future society, as envisioned by Heinlein, I want nothing to do with it.

Detroit’s Otis Mathis is a guy that could be Newt Gingrich’s poster boy for everything that’s wrong and even evil about the Orwellian reverse-named ‘affirmative action.’

However, to say that he is an example of the failure of the government (publik sckool systym) is to misunderstand why those horrible things were created in the first place.

This is what you get when the dept of education is run by nimwits/liberals who feel that ‘change’ is good. Doesn’t matter if the change is to make people more stupid. I have noted with great consternation since the sixties, the total dummying down of education, to the point that one wonders that anyone born since the sixties has an IQ remotely close to their shoe size.

You see it everyday and in everyway….clerks can’t count change and many managers don’t know their head from a hole in the ground. Reading and spelling/writing are the new extinct dodo birds. This of course, is made worse with the ease of texting and a new language built on blinders and BS.

And worse, these people are so incrediby stupid that they take pride in their ignorance. Thank god, that this week, Texans decided to make big overhauls on their textbooks. They spend more than any other state, and are looking to return to the good old days where students were taught truth, not some figment of a female libber’s mangled imagination. Now students in Texas will once more learn about american history, about math, science and how to write a sentence…hooray to that.
Perhaps there is room for hope, and not the kind we were promised by the Messiah who has yet to reveal his grades from elementary school through college. I am sure that right now he is HOPING like hell that they never get out, for then we would know that he has nothing over the deeetroit publeek scollz prezdent. Don’t you just wonder who writes O’s speeches?

Just because this guy worked for the Dept of Transportation, doesn’t mean that he couldn’t end up going POstal, does it?
Then again, maybe the guy isn’t mental, but just woke up to what his employer is really about…and how, when you work for uncle sam, you might get slammed, rammed and damned. Or maybe, shnooked, booked and fooked.
Think about it…those who generally work for the govt are those who are afraid to get off the porch and run with the big dogs. They are looking for security even if it means selling their soul. Now that he lost his job and can’t stay on the porch anymore like a good little dog and wait for master to throw him a bone, he has to forage for himself. But years of non-risk taking and all those govt guarantees probably have left him scared about getting off the porch and running with the big dogs. And this is where the guns come in…the sheer fear that the end is near and the big dogs might gobble him up, hence the big guns! Then again, maybe the guy is just worried about his future food supply and knows if he wants grub, he needs to aim straight.

One of my biggest pet peeves is not distinguishing between “then” and “than” (in addition to “they’re”, “their”, and “there”). Unfortunately, these mistakes are common.

I am not surprised at all. From my best recollection, during my time at the local government indoctrination center for mid-to-late teenagers, we spent a whole TWO WEEKS on grammar. The remaining time was allocated to reading literature such as, “Beowulf”, “All Quiet On the Western Front”, “Moby Dick”, etc. Sure, we would do “book reports”, but the purpose was not to improve writing skills; the purpose was to summarize the book.

I am not the best writer, but I do attempt to write coherent sentences, even in e-mails and on Facebook.

A similar story played out in a Boston suburb last month. A Manchester-by-the-Sea man was arrested in February for possessing “infernal” devices which is a police code word for a weapon that us Mundanes can’t be trusted with (e.g. in Massachusetts, even License to Carry holders can’t possess police batons and Tasers, etc.)

*No threats were made against anybody*. The man that was arrested had a “stockpile” of 20 firearms, knives and non-perishable food items (Oh the horror!) He possessed an LTC, which is very difficult to obtain in Massachusetts. I guess the fly in the ointment was the collapsible batons and a tear gas grenade.

Basically, Gregory Girard made the poor decision of telling his estranged wife of his plans to prepare for total economic collapse. Another media report suggested that Girard’s estranged wife informed the police.
