Chevy Runs Out of Voltage

Sunday, March 4, 2012

It looks like America’s most celebrated car has died in spite of it being the government’s poster child for saving the planet. The government’s ObamaMobile is a flat-out failure. From the Washington Examiner comes this article:

General Motors Co. announced the temporary suspension of Chevrolet Volt production and the layoffs of 1300 employees, as the company is cutting Volt manufacturing to meet lower-than-expected demand for the electric cars.

“Even with sales up in February over January, we are still seeking to align our production with demand,” GM spokesman Chris Lee said. The car company had hoped to sell 45,000 Chevy Volts in America this year, according to the Detroit News, but has only sold about 1,626 over the first two months of 2012.

The blame, of course, is placed on the media that supposedly “exaggerated” reports of the GM car catching fire due to battery problems. Is this the same government media machine that much earlier had celebrated the Volt as the second coming and the future of the American family? Folks are up to talking about how and why the Volt was a failure, in spite of massive government subsidies, but few are focusing on the car’s head cheerleader, CEO Dan Akerson.

Dan “I’m not a car guy” Akerson, the Chairman and CEO of Government Motors, a celebrated member of the Wall Street Crony Capitalist crowd, and a key lackey of the Obama administration, came to GM from The Carlyle Group, a Bushonian operation and an epicenter of the military industrial complex. (See Carlyle Group: Anatomy of a Scam. Also, check here for some Carlyle Group resumes.) He came to Detroit to serve on the board of the government’s car company as a representative of the U.S. Treasury. Dan is a corporate state guy who is connected to Washington D.C., the SEC, and the current presidential administration, and he’s a Wall Street Crony Corporatist with connections all over the financial world.

Note that Akerson is a very wealthy guy who pitched the idea for huge gas tax increases so that middle-class American families would stop buying Suburbans and Explorers, and instead opt for the fireball Volt. Also be reminded that the government’s role model for “going green” didn’t even make the list of the “greenest” cars of 2012. Pj media refers to it as the “expensive, uber-subsidized, overproduced, unprofitable, unpopular, combustible Chevy Volt.”

I’ve been writing about GM’s Sputnik on wheels since October 2010, predicting the failure of the governmentmobile that had no market, and instead, relied upon huge subsides, tax credits, and strategic government-media PR to sell this $40k+ monstrosity to upper middle class, bozo-greenie wannabees. Instead, Obama has proposed giving more subsides to prop up the Hopeless Voltless.

Can’t figure out what to do with 1300 workers for 2 months? No problem! Let unemployment pay their salaries until you are ready to put them back to work for a few more months.

Adding insult to injury is the $25 billion smackeroos that GM still owes John and Jane Doe…don’t hold your breath on ever seeing that paid back. This adminstration has to have less business acumen than a 9 year old with a lemonade stand in summer. Sure as sht, they haven’t a clue as to what they are doing.
