Many folks remember the Sputnik on wheels, otherwise known as the (East German) Trabant. Depending upon whose factoids you believe, the Trabant, the world’s worst centrally planned vehicle, is said to (1) have taken as long as 18 years to receive one on order, (2) the price was an equivalent of a year’s salary (3) there was no fuel gauge and the rear windows were glued shut (4) it took 21 days seconds to get from 0 to 62 mph, and (5) it was a pollution monster, with “nine times the amount of hydrocarbons and five times the carbon monoxide emissions of the average European car of 2007.” And then there’s the Chevy Volt.

Each Chevy Volt sold thus far may have as much as $250,000 in state and federal dollars in incentives behind it – a total of $3 billion altogether, according to an analysis by James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.

Hohman looked at total state and federal assistance offered for the development and production of the Chevy Volt, General Motors’ plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. His analysis included 18 government deals that included loans, rebates, grants and tax credits. The amount of government assistance does not include the fact that General Motors is currently 26 percent owned by the federal government.

This article about the cost of each Chevy Volt may seem like a stretch, but the article is based on a study done by the Mackinaw Center for Public Policy, an organization that does not do shoddy work. James Hohman did the study, and he is the Assistant Director of Fiscal Policy at the center. Here is a link to an interview that Hohman did with Lou Dobbs. Hohman remarks that he has not seen anything that has received this level of state support since the days of the Communist bloc.

Rather than repeat previous comments on the atrocity that is the Chevy Trabant, see my blog from October 2010: “Chevy Volt: The Government’s Car” where I wrote about the assorted subsidies, buyer’s tax credits, and the global warming (oops, climate change) scam that is behind the government-corporate state, centrally-planning mechanism that creates jobs in strategic sectors with strategic corporate partners to produce subsidized products that no one wants to buy on the market so the green industry can be well-funded via redistribution schemes, and people can be propagandized into “going green” to prop up these highly-profitable and fascist state-corporate partnerships.

The incandescent light bulb that cooked the cakes for millions of aspiring bakers will be phased out (read: forcefully banned) in 2012, so Hasbro has made a major announcement:

“We are aware that the 100-watt incandescent light bulb will no longer be available beginning in 2012. In fall 2011, Hasbro will launch the Easy-Bake Ultimate Oven, introducing a new way to bake for the next generation of chefs. This new oven features a heating element that does not use a light bulb and offers an extensive assortment of mixes reflective of the hottest baking trends for today.”

Now that’s news that matters.

The religion of politically correct environmentalism is right at home in Canada just as it is here in the US. In the town of Laval in Quebec, a 6-year-old boy was taught to fear plastic bags by the purveyors of propaganda at his school who threatened to punish the boy if he brought the disposable, plastic abominations to school. The story went viral because his Dad is a blogger. One Enviro-Busybody noted that tupperware was the respectable choice. But tupperware is made of plastic, and surely it is the equivalent of at least 3 disposable diapers in terms of its ruinous nature. So the race is on between Ziploc and Tupperware to determine which product can destroy the planet first.

A video clip from the neo-fascist 10:10 global warming alarmists group has created a wicked stink on the Internet recently with its glorification of assassination for the crime of being a living, breathing human being using some of the earth’s resources. This is some type of a crazed EnviroCommunist activist organization that aims to cut carbon 10% per year starting in 2010.

The video clip, titled “No Pressure,” shows children being brainwashed with global warming doomsday and lectured about the necessity of reducing their carbon footprints – the group’s mantra. Those kids who don’t buy into the religion and refuse to go along get “blown up” by wicked adults with smiling faces via remote control.

Here’s an interesting snippet from an article on Prison Planet:

Czech Physicist Luboš Motl goes even further in his condemnation of the clip, unloading on X-files actress Gillian Anderson who provided the voiceover for the video. “is she really such a disgusting bloody Nazi bitch?” he asks.

And then try to remember the man named by Obama as his top chair in science: John Holden. This is the man who has advocated forced abortions, mass sterilization, a global police force, and other forms of diminishing the human population. Thus, this stuff is hardly spoof anymore. On that note, don’t forget the lampoon that is more hopefully realistic than its creators and endorsers would ever admit: the Subaru Green Police commercial that aired during the last Super Bowl.

From reader Jeff comes this gem (from earlier this year):

The government is continuing to encroach on freedoms more and more in the name of climate change. Case in point: An ordinance that went into effect June 1 stating if you sell your home in Austin, Texas and you fail to get a clean energy “green” audit, you will likely face criminal charges.

According to an ordinance passed by the Austin City Council passed in November 2008, any home 10 years or older will require an “Energy Conservation Audit.

“It’s a very good thing,” David Malone, auditor from 1st Choice Energy, said. “Well to be honest with you, this was a, I think that this ordinance coming at this time is really Austin’s version of the stimulus package.”

Such are the disadvantages of those cool hot spots like Austin. They are also bastions of left-wing totalitarianism. Check out the website for the Green Energy Audit Certification program. Energy audit companies have been popping up all over Austin. One story reported that 86% of homes “audited” failed the audit. Apparently, homeowners are not required to make any of the recommended repairs, which exposes the audit program as a money-making scam for the green industry and its backers and administrators. Note how ‘taking your money by the force of law’ to line the pockets of favored recipients has become “stimulus.”

One hallmark of any totalitarian society is the perversion of words and their definitions on the part of government(s) in the process of establishing arbitrary decrees that rob the majority to benefit the few.

Oregon Attorney General John Kroger has established the new Environmental Crimes Enforcement Unit (the “ECEU”). The purpose of this unit is allow the state to get more aggressive in pursuing “criminals” guilty of environmental non-compliance. After all, Kroger was elected after promising to increase the prosecution of environmental crimes. From the article in Oregon Business Report:

Mr. Kroger’s plan to dramatically increase the number of criminal prosecutions for environmental noncompliance is a departure from past practices. Historically, most of the environmental noncompliance in Oregon has been punished by way of civil and administrative penalties. Criminal prosecutions, which have been handled by harried county district attorneys, have been spotty and reserved for only the most egregious violations.

So now, people who don’t perfectly conform to arbitrary laws created by special interests – the people-hating EnviroCommunists and businesses that profit from such laws -will be deemed criminals and will serve jail time.

In fact, Kroger has said that big business will not be his main prey – he intends to go after small businesses, who he believes “have a competitive advantage because they are not paying the costs associated with compliance.” So now, Mr. Kroger is a CFO and a cost expert, too? Impressive! Except that Mr. Kroger has already failed the test. Small businesses are always at a disadvantage wherever regulation and associated costs are concerned. And big business lobbyists understand this fact. Congratulations to Oregon’s wealthy and powerful business lobbyists who have helped establish this evil brainchild and the plans for driving up costs and increasing the likelihood incarceration. More business competition destroyed, and that’s the plan.

Now ….. remind me why you want to remain a business owner in Oregon?

Call it anything you want, but it’s still a turbo. Remember this?

DETROIT, Jan. 6, 2008 – Ford Motor Company is introducing a new engine technology called EcoBoost that will deliver up to 20 percent better fuel economy on half a million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles annually in North America during the next five years.

EcoEnvironmentalism is one of those political issues that is approached with emotional fervor because there is little to no logic to support its position, especially by the non-scientific constituency (the grass roots greenies). Ford is a company that has long pandered to the emotional mindset of the EnviroCommunists. It came out with a new turbo engine and called it EcoBoost in order to appeal to EcoConsumers who were of the EcoMindset. EcoBoost was hailed by everyone as an environmentally responsible development in engine technology, in spite of the fact that its V-6 gets up to 365 horsepower. Ford not only announced its fuel economy benefits, but it also claimed the EcoBoost would cut CO2 emissions by 15%. Now if Ford would only offer a one-year supply of reusable grocery bags along with the car…

Enter the EcoCalifornians. Typically, they dislike American cars, that is, until Ford introduced the Taurus with EcoBoost. For September, the second best market for the new Taurus was …… California. And no, the mpg of the new Taurus is nothing spectacular. But with this political issue, results don’t matter – only feelings matter. These people will buy anything that is deemed to be environmentally correct. Turbo = politically incorrect. EcoTurbo = not passable. EcoBoost = environmentally correct. It tells you what marketing folks think about the intellect of the greenies. How ’bout an EcoHummer?

This reminds me of something said by a friend of mine: you can package and market a turd as Almond Roca, and people will buy it.

John P. Holdren is Obama’s science czar.

In writings published in past years, Holdren has advocated “de-development” of the United States and redistribution of wealth both within and between nations.

In a 1973 book, Holdren said: “The fetus, given the opportunity to develop properly before birth, and given the essential early socializing experiences and sufficient nourishing food during the crucial early years after birth, will ultimately develop into a human being.”

Says Senate Commerce Chairman John D. Rockefeller IV:

“The president, I think, has surrounded himself with some of the most brilliant choices,” Rockefeller said. “Dr. Holdren, I don’t want to embarrass you but I sometimes refer to you as walking on water.

Folks, this is the “change” that Obama spoke of. These are the people that Master Obama – and his wealthy enablers – picked to rule over you, and entrenched establishment guys like Rockefeller will do their best to facilitate the goal of absolute hegemony.

Surely the government doesn’t plan the economy? And there’s definitely no redistribution going on in order to fund special interests and their green agenda.

The Obama adminstration has announced more corporate welfare for corporate state minions willing to follow the government’s green agenda.

The White House today will award $2.4 billion in grants for research on advanced batteries and vehicle components, and to purchase plug-in electric vehicles.

President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Energy Secretary Steven Chu will announce the 48 winners in Indiana, Michigan and North Carolina.

Matt Rogers, an Energy Department advisor, said the grants will create “tens of thousands of jobs.”

Michigan will have 11 award winners and Indiana seven. Michigan and Indiana are the top two award winners in terms of dollar value, Rogers said, but he declined to say which one will claim the largest total.

It’s like a beggar’s lottery, with salivating bureaucrats lining up for scraps of jerky being thrown to the pack.

…The White House said the grants, which do not need to be repaid, will help “establish a domestic manufacturing industry able to produce the batteries and drive systems for the next generation of advanced vehicles here in the U.S.”
