Al Qaeda “Operative” Tries to Blow Up Plane With Firecracker Device

I do not jest – this is real “breaking news” at this hour. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that on an international flight bound for Detroit, a man with a ‘firecracker thing’ on his leg tried to “blow up the plane.”

The man, who has not been publicly identified by officials, told investigators that he was given the device by Al Qaeda operatives in Yemen, where he was also given instructions on how to detonate it, the official said.

The story reads like an episode of MAD TV. Does the government have any better fodder than this for its fear mongering campaign? Predictably, the latest statement is as follows:

The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that airline passengers should expect to see additional screening measures put in place on both domestic and international flights.

Dear Republicrats and other assorted War on Terror proponents: don’t write me and tell me this was a serious threat and, thanks to President Bush, we are secure.

Of course we are safer, just as soon as my cpap machine is swabbed to find some kind of explosive(?) residue on it and my metal belt buckle has been neutralized.

When I was a child, I remember you could smoke a cigarette on any domestic flight. And that was only 20 years ago.

Although our DHS/FAA/TSA overlords wouldn’t permit it, but if somebody tried to light up a cig on a flight today they would surely be labeled a “terrorist trying to blow up a plane”.

And additional screening measures? Don’t we already have to take off our shoes? Pretty soon we’ll have to totally disrobe.

“The suspect, identified by a member of Congress as Abdul Mudallad, is a Nigerian national who claims to have ties to al-Qaida.”

.This is what we get for letting Nigerian nationals with ties to Al-Qaida into the United States. I think a -thorough- background check via interpol (replete with extensive lie detector tests) should be passed before anyone is allowed to even visit our country. Any visitor to the USA should be as vetted as any visitor to the White House. Our kids are ALL as important as the Obama daughters. The terrorists only have to get lucky once. That guy may have been an idiot, but all who follow him may not be so inept. If he’d have brought a plane down over a major city, he might have killed a thousand people.

When I first heard about this I thought, “I wonder how they’re going to blow this out of proportion this time?” Well the ‘device’ has now gone from a firecracker or a loose powdery substance that the guy was trying to light on fire (and ended up burning himself while being tackled) to a “sophisticated” device that he says he got from Yemen.

HA! That’s SOOO convenient. Out of all the countries in the world, it happens to come from the one country our govt. has been secretly bombing for a week. The media of course is so despicable in abetting these govt. spooks, but what else do you expect? I guess Jim Rogers and Marc Faber really were spot on predicting another war from our govt. to distract from the looming hyperinflation.

Kinda ironic the whole Dutch-Detroit connection considering yourself Karen and your recent post. The first thing that actually came to my mind upon hearing this was not even the phony terrorism, but actually why would anyone want to leave AMSTERDAM for DETROIT? I shudder at that journey myself, lol.

Well, I suppose if I was a passenger and saw someone trying to set something on fire, I would be a bit nervous. I am also glad that there were no fatalities. I guess what really irks me is how this event conveniently took place over the holidays, when all of us were already distracted in the christmas hooplah. I suppose since the miracle in the hudson took place about a year ago, the media figured we were all due for another heartwarming tale of triumph in the sky.

Oh yes, Tomas! LOL I would rather be on the opposite flight, heading AWAY from the motor city.

Could it be that the fed-gov actually wanted something like this to happen so that “thousands standing around” would have even more reason to ask those probing questions like: “what’s this?”

Miles!… You need to put your thinking cap on for once in your trollish life. As I’ve mentioned over at other web sites it’s all too convenient. You have a man the Feds state they knew about and observed for two years and yet ironic that he of all people was NOT on any no-fly list. Huh?! Come again? Grandmothers and innocents of all stripes are manhandled and denied flights within the USSA but a known kook is “allowed” to move forward. And to put the cherry on top he gets his goods from, drum roll please…… YEMEN!!!! Ding Ding Ding Ding… Sorry, but this doesn’t pass the BS smell test.

Dear Karen, This is OT, but I was wondering if you would be so kind as to take a look at my article and make a comment. http://sonicninjakitty.wordpress.com/2009/12/23/this-ones-for-the-girls/

I would be thrilled to hear your opinion!

Tomás made a good point regarding the properties of the explosive – they keep changing. Today (Dec. 27) I read in the paper that the “explosive” used was PETN. PETN is used in DetCord, and typically used as a booster in other devices.

How did some “loose powder” and a “syringe with some liquid” all of a sudden turn into PETN – an extremely powerful explosive?

And with the exemplary service of all the TSA (and their foreign component) how could this have happened? Don’t worry folks, the TSA will keep you all safe. Just walk through the little sheeple chute and hand over your toothpaste and shampoo to some two-brain-celled TSAhole – it’s for your own safety.

Anyone who has gone through TSA “security” and watched these folks in action know that the only reason nothing’s happened is because no one has really tried. TSA security is like “putting a steel door on a grass hut.” (attributed to an airport manager in Texas.

Oh yeah – around a week before this “terrorism” incident occurred, some illegal aliens were found to be employed at an airport – many after undergoing DHS background checks. Don’tcha feel safe?

What would make a well off person want to blow himself up on a flying airplane full of people?? This guy is going to wish that he had died when he starts being Tortured Every Day! Evidently security at overseas airports Does Not Work!!
Kudos and Praise To the Brave Passengers that Subdued this Lunatic!!
    You Betcha!!!

While I have to think that even the average Amoricon is at least smart enough to ignore this latest “false flag” incident, they’re apparently not smart (or organized) enough to put a stop to the nonsense that has become domestic airport security. I’m counting the days until just that one incident takes place that becomes the proverbial straw that breaks the camel’s back, that one incident in which the TSA reaction to a perceived threat is such an act of overkill that it sets off a mass riot at some major U.S. airport. (I know, I know, that’s EXACTLY what the Powers That Be want to have happen to justify even MORE travel tyranny). We can always fantasize, can’t we? Meanwhile, do your part to put the airlines out of business that allow this shit to continue by driving, hitchhiking, or hopping a freight train before you even consider flying anywhere.

I just had to comment again on this. Flying with a US based airline is a pitiful experience, aside from the long lines and TSA stuff-it is the overall, bottom of the barrel service for passengers. When I flew for the first time I was appalled at how the one flight was reminiscent of being on a greyhound, same mentality only being up in the air, with no reprieve. The food is lousy, if you even get any food, you have to deal with passengers who do not understand etiquette onboard and rude personnel. After this last incident in Detroit (Michigan is my home state), I have no desire to fly out of Detroit or any airport here, and would sooner drive over to Ontario and depart there. Besides, don’t people deserve to be treated like human beings in an airport?

WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS IF AN ‘ISOLATED EXTREMIST’
DOES A JOB OF BLOWING UP A PLANE ANY DIFFERENT
THAN A ‘GROUPIE EXTREMIST’….Check out what the anointed one says in the following url from CNS News posted today–
    http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/59115—

    ‘Obama
Describes Nigerian As ‘Isolated Extremist,’ Despite Ties to Yemem
–” President Barack Obama, in his first public comments on the attempted bombing of a U.S. airliner traveling from Amsterdam to Detroit, described the Nigerian suspect as “an isolated extremist,” despite reports that the 23-year-old Nigerian was trained and supplied in Yemen, a country he visited twice for extended periods.” And then another laugh, and it isn’t even April fools day yet! Homeland Security Touts 2009 Accomplishments, Including ‘Secure Flight’ Program at http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/59080
One wonders just how on earth one Ms Napolitano ever got to be head of Homeland Security….surely doesn’t make me feel secure. And you can be sure the yemens are laughing heads off

This latest terror scare is small potatos compared to what Obama passed on December 16th as Americans xmas shopped. Let us speak of our very sovereignty at risk with a stroke of a pen on Dec 16th. On that day, Obama reversed Reagan’s order requiring INTERPOL operations be subject to several U.S. laws such as the FIA. But in an amendment to Executive Order 12425, Obama removed said restrictions, thus making it possible for foreign military forces to have full immunity in the US. This can only be viewed with a dark lens. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=120363

‘ 2c of the United States International Organizations Immunities Act is the crucial piece.
The archives of international organizations shall be inviolable.’ At the ThreatsWatch.org website, one reads that INTERPOL is placed above the United States Constitution and beyond the legal reach of our own top law enforcement thus, a precursor to more damaging moves”.

” Property and assets being immune from search and confiscation means precisely that. Wherever they may be in the United States. This could conceivably include human assets – Americans arrested on our soil by INTERPOL officers.” Our 6th amendment rights could fly out the window if our government deigns to keep documents out of the hands of the court system, and just hand them over to INTERPOL. Could INTERPOL then keep files on Americans suspected of having brains?
