Who believes that Hegel was a great thinker? Nixon? Go figure. History has shown Hegel to be an eloquent conman at best, and the Hegelian Dialectic has been co-opted by power seeking manipulators for two centuries. Scary to come to a libertarian website and read a positive article about someone having the same reverence for Hegel that Karl Marx did. No true intellectual could revere Hegel’s con of building a seeminly noble facade, then manipulating your altruistic commitment to it. Contradictions are contradictions because they don’t fit together. There is no great enlightenment in believing that you can bridge them (maybe with a little help from your government), nor any intellectual reward in trying. The true purpose is the opposite, someone picks your pocket while you struggle to rectify the squares with circles. Global Warming and Socialism are currently being sold to us by Hegelian means. It’s dispicible. Don’t know much about Gottfried, and I always felt Nixon’s intellect was overshadowed by his political image, but both seem greasier to me now, knowing that they bought what Hegel was selling.
