Lou Reed, RIP

Sunday, October 27, 2013 23:52 2 Comments

Lou Reed has passed at 71 years of youth. In case you never heard it, here’s Lou Reed’s Egg Cream from the excellent Harvey Keitel movie, “Blue in the Face” (Directed by Wayne Wang & Paul Auster). One of the most grungy, ambiguous guitar licks I have ever heard.

60 Minutes is Intellectually Insolvent on its Detroit Doctrine

Wednesday, October 23, 2013 22:03 5 Comments

Following is a re-post of my article I published on LewRockwell.com. ————————————————————————————- 60 Minutes may have done its worst hack job of the year last week with its story about the gloom and doom of Detroit. CBS correspondent, Bob Simon, who has the appearance of a cadaver propped up for one last broadcast, notes in his most [...]

Detroit’s Phallic Vista

Sunday, October 20, 2013 13:18 1 Comment

It’s about time that Detroit gets some positive attention for its appreciable views from downtown. Forget the ruin porn – looking across the river this week (my office is visible in the background) we get to see our Canadians friends in Windsor and their wonderful sense of humor as well as sense of aesthetics. From Gawker media: [...]

American Piano Sensation Conrad Tao

Sunday, October 20, 2013 11:48 No Comments

Since a Sunday deserves a non-ideological post or two, here’s my musical contribution for today: the young and brilliant and uber-talented Conrad Tao playing with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at Detroit’s Orchestra Hall last weekend. While Tao’s performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 is amazing, I want to point the reader to his short [...]

You Have Breasts and a Hungry Baby? I’m Offended.

Sunday, October 20, 2013 9:55 2 Comments

The American culture of perpetually being offended has once again displayed the willful and collective ignorance of the masses that undergirds and urges more government laws to “protect” the adherents of the Perpetually Offended religion from being aggrieved. The hatred for breastfeeding in this governmentized backwater continues. A woman in Missouri is being thrust before [...]

Unbelievable News Flash: “40 years of federal nutrition research fatally flawed”

Friday, October 18, 2013 23:12 5 Comments

Let’s see: federally-funded, quasi-nutritional research that has (1) long propped up Big Ag and its corresponding Industrial Food Machine, and (2) has promoted Food Pyramid mythology while enriching the satellites of the Pyramid scheme has been found to be a “fatally flawed” example of scientific credibility. Really? I’m dumbfounded. Here is a quote from the [...]

Cop Creep of the Decade

Monday, October 14, 2013 21:04 12 Comments

YouTube and the ‘Net in general are awash in this sort of thing: Law-abiding, productive person has a little too much of a very legal substance (alcohol). Bully cop pulls over the “criminal” and carts the person off to jail to “teach them a lesson” and attempts to ruin their life and finances via the [...]

Top Ten Downtowns – Three Jeers for the Toilet!

Saturday, October 12, 2013 11:24 No Comments

No, the big surprise is not that Detroit made it into the top ten. In spite of what one’s perceptions may be due to multiple personality media spin, this is a uniquely American city with some of the greatest architecture and general history within US borders. However, what is surprising is that the Eastern Bloc of [...]

Free Market vs. Government Decree on the GMO Issue

Friday, October 11, 2013 21:22 No Comments

On November 7 in Atlanta, the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund will host a debate between famed farmer Joel Salatin and Dr. Joseph Mercola on the GMO labeling question. Anarcho Salatin takes the viewpoint that government should not mandate GMO labeling in spite of the fact that the entire GMO industry is built upon [...]

Low-Fat Indoctrination: The Younger the Better

Friday, October 11, 2013 20:58 No Comments

Psychology Today has published another great article on how the government is targeting children as young as age 3 to believe in and embrace the fat-free, yolk-free, governmentized dogma on all things food: Author Pam Schoenfeld writes: The latest issue of my professional journal arrived in the mail last week, and as usual, I skimmed the [...]
