Gazette van Detroit

Monday, July 22, 2013 21:36 1 Comment

Of all the requests I get, for interviews and article submissions and whatnot, out of the blue came one of the most inspiring of all. I’ve been asked to do an interview with Belgian Publishing Inc., which publishes the Gazette van Detroit, a Flemish paper that turns 100 years old next summer. I struggled to read [...]

Daniel Hannan on Statism and Detroit: My Analysis

Monday, July 22, 2013 20:10 4 Comments

For those who aren’t familiar with Daniel Hannan, he is a Member of the European Parliament, representing the conservative party in South East England. He is a Euroskeptic, a prudent Jeffersonian, and a rebel with a cause. He digs Ron Paul, and he has appeared in the American media with Ron Paul and Judge Napolitano. [...]

Detroit Jail Fail

Saturday, July 20, 2013 7:32 1 Comment

A couple of months ago, I wrote about Detroit’s jail blunder and the potential work stoppage on the construction of the massive facility – on prime downtown property – that was over budget on all counts. Work on this addition to incarceration nation has finally stopped, and five developers have submitted bids to develop the area [...]

Detroit Go Boom

Thursday, July 18, 2013 18:20 7 Comments

The media duked it out to see who could post the story first. It’s no surprise to the savvy folks here in Detroit, especially after a bankruptcy pit bull was hired to come here and prepare the city for the topple. If I see one more headline “Largest Municipal Bankruptcy Ever,” my yawns will snap [...]

Why I Refuse to Be an Organ Donor

Monday, July 15, 2013 21:23 1 Comment

Because of the establishment’s view of your life as versus your benefit to others, and how that influences decisions about your right to live. As Bill Anderson and Andy Barnett wrote, government has created and exacerbated the organ shortage problem.

Yes, Guns Are “For the Children”

Monday, July 15, 2013 20:59 No Comments

Predictably, when a teenage boy is saved from a ruthless attacker by a stranger with a handgun, it isn’t national news. Good thing this kid wasn’t in Chicago or New York. Like I noted in yesterday’s blog post – no one ever needs to carry a gun because bad things never happen to you. Bad [...]

Independence is Popular Again

There are so many great living traditions coming back into style, and younger folks are starting to embrace the philosophy of self-sufficiency. On that note, I recently discovered that Williams-Sonoma has a neat agrarian section: chicken coops, canning, preserving, seeds, compost, beekeeping, composting, and even vintage equipment. Williams-Sonoma also has a great agrarian site on Pinterest.

Mom Gone Wild

I despise 90%+ of the “kids left alone in car” hysteria stories that the cops and media blow out of proportion so that the police state and social (un)services can claim moral superiority. But not this case, if the alleged story is correct.

“No One Ever Needs to Carry A Gun”: Disciples of Oprah

Sunday, July 14, 2013 23:01 2 Comments

This is a statement that is often said to me to try and bait me into argument. I hear this from friends and acquaintances. Admittedly, it comes mostly from women (surprise, surprise). At gatherings, women just seem to want to bait me into arguing this topic, even when I haven’t even hinted at a discussion [...]

Let’s Talk Skittles and Zimmerman

Sunday, July 14, 2013 10:54 2 Comments

What an intelligent and tempered defense of George Zimmerman, by his brother Robert. He keeps Piers Morgan at bay the entire interview. Morgan, like all of the media bozos, can’t seem to drop the skittles portrayal. Additionally, Morgan just can’t get over it that George Zimmerman is composed and stoic, as opposed to not having [...]
