More on Shani Davis

Wednesday, February 22, 2006 14:29 Comments Off

An interesting article from Sports Illustrated on the Shani Davis-Chad Hedrick fued. (I posted on this earlier.) Crybaby Hedrick can’t get over the fact that Davis passed on the team pursuit so he could focus 100% of his energy on the 1,000, his best event. Shani–gasp!–didn’t discuss his plans and focus with countryman Hedrick, it [...]

Jack Boots Against Fast Food

McDonald’s went SuperSize just once too often. Bush’s new cabinet-level, health Nazis came in for the kill. I changed the story a bit. This is just too fun. (From Classical Values.)

Traitorous Bitches and Bastards

Wednesday, February 22, 2006 13:29 Comments Off

I’m becoming a huge fan of Doug Thompson’s “The Rant” on Capitol Hill Blue. I love his title: Traitorous Bitches and Bastards. Those bagpipes you hear playing in the background provide a much-needed funeral dirge for freedom, which died this week at the hands of the United States Congress. Freedom has been on its deathbed [...]

Leave Shani Davis Alone

Monday, February 20, 2006 23:34 Comments Off

I’m sick of the incessant nipping at Olympic speedskater Shani Davis. What’s behind it all? First off, cut out the “first black man to win…..” crap–I’m tired of hearing the PC version. Second, his teammate, Chad Hedrick, is a whining wimp. The story is that Shani Davis is unpatriotic. He’s not a “team player.” He’s [...]

Old Vine Zinfandel

Monday, February 20, 2006 23:27 Comments Off

Tonight I enjoy a glass–or two–of very fine Ironstone Old Vine Zinfandel, 2004. It is “drenched in aromas of dark cherries and blackberry jam layered with a hint of ecualyptus and toasty oak.” A very good wine for not a lot of money.

* Robert M. Crunden’s The Superfluous Men: Conservative Critics of American Culture 1900-1945. * Henry George’s Protection or Free Trade: An Examination of the Tariff Question, with Especial Regard to the Interests of Labor. I have a real skanky-but-beautiful 1886 version of that book. The pages crack each time I turn them. * Walter Reuther [...]

Warrentucky, Man

Monday, February 20, 2006 22:24 Comments Off

There is a suburb of Detroit–that borders 8 Mile Road–called Warren. The North end is fairly middle class, decently normal. The South end, that borders 8 Mile, is a haven for mullet haircuts, flea markets, trailer parks, bad tattoo parlors, thrift stores, 3rd-run theatres, junk yards, adult novelty shops, Rottweilers, Lynyrd Skynyrd banners, rather chunky [...]

Kevin Carson Gets Down on Cheese

Saturday, February 18, 2006 11:54 Comments Off

And holy hell, did he ever make a great find. There is so much to be said on this topic, I cannot begin to narrow it down. So I’ll paste Kevin’s blog post, as he quotes Jon Carroll (two paras bolded for excellent emphasis): “Who Moved My Cheese?” is much used in corporate settings. Employees [...]
